Introduction

Excellent dinner at Lumiere. We had two magnums for dinner. Both showed very well.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 1989 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

(From magnum.) This was very lovely, maturing Chateauneuf. Exuberant nose. Juicy palate showing raspberry, garrigue, truffle and black pepper. Nicely textured wine. Good acidity still - matched well with several of the dishes on the night.

  • 1990 Château Pape Clément 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

(From magnum.) This was tannic and a bit hard from the outset. Took all evening to get going. Once it did, it was a nice, powerful Bordeaux. Cassis and dark fruit. There was also a distracting notion of green pepper (capiscum) that I did not enjoy. Lots of time left yet on this.
