Introduction

As tasting and comparing wines helps to learn more about wines, I decided to start a mini tasting at home with food. My first tasting was 2 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with Chicken rice, as LT likes the aromatic and refreshing whites and I have learned that it go well with Chicken rice! Fortunate enough Peter was able to drop by and joined us in this mini tasting so we have 3 votes this time. The tasting is partial blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

I thought of writing some brief description of the wines but have to give up due to time constraint. But I would think that Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc will be better made as compare to ARA Pathway Sauvignon Blanc, which marketed as its 3rd wine with Resolute(1st) and Composite(2rd) sit above. But the results turned out to be interesting.

  • 2008 Ara Sauvignon Blanc Pathway 89 Points

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

    1st Marlborough Sau Blanc of the mini tasting. Pale yellow colour, nice & clear. It has an aromatic nose with passion fruits, minerality and some citrus. Smooth and soft on palate, lots of passion fruits and strong minerality with a touch of sweetness, lovely acidic but overall is balance. Finish is refreshing and clean. Well this was the winner of the night as LT & Peter favour its style although I prefer the Dog Point Sau Blanc.

  • 2008 Dog Point Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 90 Points

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

    2nd Marlborough of the mini tasting. Bright straw colour with greenish hues. It has fresh aroma of stone-fruits and passion fruits. Fresh & crisp and balance with good weight on palate. Flavourful white with tropical fruits, passion fruits, minerality and cut grass. With a long finish. This is my favour with its lingering mouth feel and better palate transition. But LT thought it has a little bit of bitterness. Hm...

Closing

Ok the Winner is Winegrowers of Ara Sauvignon Blanc Pathway, with LT & Peter both given their votes. Well this is again depend very much on individual's preference.
But the verdict is hard to make, with only small different between the two. I was impressed by the quality of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Both wines are truly made to enjoy with an affordable price tag. My next mini tasting will be reds and hopefully LT will like to join me.
