2nd Mini tasting: Entry level Pinot - Wynham vs. Little Yering

Introduction

My second mini tasting, decided to clear wines that bought quite a while back. So pick up the Pinots for the tasting, also to prepare my palate for the coming Pinot Noir tasting.
The tasting is done by myself alone, blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Yering Station Pinot Noir Little Yering 87 Points

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

    A wine claimed to have a big pedigree and such an over-achiever, source fruits from Yarra Valley and a small portion from Adelaide Hills. It souds quite promising, let see if it can impress me.
    Dark crimson red with youthful hues, Moderate nose of red cherry, red fruits, subtle oak and slight pungent nose. Light to medium bodied, with lots of fruits and nice cherry flavour well supported by lively acidic, rounds off with spicy oak and smoky finishing. Fine grain tannins with medium+ finishing. Well I must say it meet my expectation as a pretty good entry level Pinot Noir at $25.

  • 2007 Wyndham Estate Pinot Noir Bin 333 85 Points

    Australia, South Eastern

    A wine make for everyday enjoyment (= Unimpressive mass production wine?) with fruits source from south-eastern Australia (another indication of its quality) at AUD$14. With 2 silver medal under its belt, let see if it can impress me.
    Dark crimson red, less aromatic, with red fruits & hints of sweet cherry detected on the nose. Light on the palate, with cherry, strawberry and some pungent, smooth but straight, soft tannins and medium- finishing. Just a decent entry level Pinot Noir, can't impress me.

Little Yering live up to my expectation and beat Wynham to win in the mini tasting.
