I liked the first 3 wines, which beautifully show the transparency of the vintage and, as opposed to other wines I've tried, have enough material.
2007 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Ruby center, lighter edge. Nose of game, licorice, and stone. Black fruit, very Volnay weight but good volume and excellent acidity. Earthiness and subtle sweetness emerge. Really good.

2007 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Lighter and more tawny than the Mitans. Similarly gamy nose, but this is leaner, more earthy, and more etched and precise. Long, dry, intense finish. Classic, excellent, and true to the vineyard.

2007 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru En Caillerets
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Fairly light color. Pungently fragrant aromatics. Light to medium weight with a bit of sap. Pretty, brambly red strawberry fruit. Only demerit for a shorter finish, but this improves, as does the wine generally with some air, developing some light earthiness. Delicate and very appealing.

2007 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Medium ruby. Floral fragrance to this one. This is the biggest of all 4 wines tasted with an obviously oaky base. Relatively simple cherry fruit, looser, less soil-infused, and more diffuse than the Montille or Pousse d'Or wines. In short, less Volnay character than the others, and its size does not impress but makes it seem clumsy next to the others.
