Introduction

Pekka brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2006 Warwick Estate Syrah Black Lady 88 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch, Simonsberg-Stellenbosch

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A really dark purpley red. Very expressive on the nose, lots of cassis and a nice touch of vanillary oak, a bit of tar also coming through. Quite a bit of tannins on the palate, very fruity, lots of cassis, also a bit of oak coming through here as well, but not too much. This was a very nice wine, I was rather surprised it was from South Africa. I was guessing Portugal, the tar was not the usual burnt rubber I experience from many SAf wines. 50+4+10+16+8=88

  • 2007 Hewitson Miss Harry 83 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. This was a rather garnet red to the rim, not much purple here. The nose is rather fruity and flowery, red berries like strawberry coming through. On the palate this is easy, nicely fruity, red fruits, very little tannins, almost no acidity. Rather bland in fact, no character. A beginners wine? No hard edges, no complexity, just easy. 50+4+8+14+7=83

Closing

I've been thinking of getting a bottle of Miss Harry for a while, but now I know to pass. The Warwick was very nice, I could definitely gat a bottle or two of that!
