Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. This was quite a dark red with a hint of browning on the edge. The nose was powerful cassis with quite a bit of toasted oak, but somehow it didn't bother me here, it was harmoniously part of the bouquet, also some meaty aromas coming through. The palate was very nice, smooth, supple tannins, great fruit, cassis, no sweetness, just enjoyable. Tasting this double blind was great, I was immediately struck by the quality of the wine, even though there was obvious oak, it was an integral part of the wine. I really liked this, I have a bottle of 2005 in the cellar, and shall certainly leave it there for a couple of years at least. 50+5+11+16+8=90
Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A dark violet red. WTF?! The nose is like sour milk, lots of lactic acids here, otherwise some rounded red fruits underneath. On the palate, white pepper, spicey, quite sweet, red fruit. Hmm, a rather interesting wine, but not exactly good. Does not show any Cab Franc characterisitcs. A WTF wine. 50+4+9+14+6=83
Apparently the sour milk smell may come from butyric acid, a bacterial product and thus a flaw in the wine.
