Introduction
Fun night of Aussie Shiraz with the group. As always there were no corked bottles due to diligent preparation from our moderator John G. The Kay Bros and Barossa Valley E&E were served blind as a fun side line. As usual a good time was had by all. Thanks Kevin for hosting.
1997 Greenock Creek Shiraz Seven Acre 91 Points
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Nose: Rustic with tar and slate mineral. After glass air red fruits show. Palate: Red fruits and some floral qualities. Pretty wine that has held up well.

1998 Greg Norman Australia Estates Shiraz Reserve 90 Points
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast
Nose: Classic Aussie mint qualities with some moss and blackberry. Palate: Soft styled with ripe blackberry. Very up front fruit that dissapates cleanly albeit also quickly. Has aged well but drink up.

2000 d'Arenberg Shiraz The Dead Arm 90 Points

Nose: Big raspberry with some forrest floor-like qualities. Palate: Spice up front with the raspberry and a very quick finish.

2002 d'Arenberg Shiraz The Dead Arm 91 Points

Nose: Raspberry but more tamed than the 2000, and more earth, spice and the forrest floor evident. Palate: More spice than the 2000 with the raspberry in a more supportive role with a far more lengthy finish. Liked this better although the 2000 was still a solid.

2003 Marquis Philips Shiraz 9 84 Points

Nose: Coffee and some toffee with some alcohol. Palate: Fire in the hole!! Big alcohol burn and really no fruit. If you're camping this could replace a Sterno can to cook your food. The nose was actually not that bad. If not for the nose this would not make 80 points for me. Perhaps this bottle was not representative.

2003 Kaesler Shiraz The Bogan 87 Points

Nose: Petrol hints give way to raspberry. Palate: Somewhat burnt quality with red fruits underneath. Nose is the highlight of this wine. Way too alcoholic but not nearly as bad as the Marquis de Sade...I mean Marquis Phillips.

2001 Kay Brothers Shiraz Block 6 Amery Vineyards 91 Points

Nose: A unique fresh air quality with dark/scorched earth and a spicy quality. Palate: Somewhat more simple than the nose would promise with still solid tannins, red fruits, and a medium length finish.

2001 Barossa Valley Estate Shiraz E & E Black Pepper 92 Points

Nose: Earth and tar. Palate: Black fruits with the earth and spice in equal measure on the mid palate and finish. Really good acidity and a very clean finish. My WOTN.
