Masterclass conducted by Michael Hill Smith MW , which was an excellent interesting speaker. Very informatiive and he is a really honest speaker that said it as it was. A very educational spread of wines chosen from the various regions in australia.

  Fresh crisp almost grassy grapefruits and gooseberries. Racy grippy lemon powder. Lively and excited. Still too young and like biting on a lemon and grapefruit. Finishes with limestone chalkiness. Still needs more time t tone down.

• 2002 Pewsey Vale Vineyard Riesling The Contours Museum Reserve 84 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley

  Kero, rich and smokey. Bone dry with slatey minerality and citric acidity. Finished with glimpses of lemon candy. Fresh and racy with razor acicidty. Some white stonefruits, white flowers, white grapefruit. REally dry.

• 2007 Shaw and Smith Chardonnay M3 Vineyard 85 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills

  Fresh and lively but also with burgundian chablis like nose. Slightly nutty. Elegant though still rich, oaty with fresh acidity and limestone minerality. Good length and body.

  Excellent burgundian funk , deep minerality and wet rocks atop charming gooseberries. Savory but backed with excellent minerality with bitter pith and creme at the finish. Good finese.

  Burgundian funky assiness with white bread. Lots of white creaminess and richer than the M3. I get cream peaches, nicely lifted by lightly ripened white morning breakfast fruits.

• 2008 De Bortoli Pinot Noir Reserve Release 82 Points

  Light autumn cherries, polished and bright. Sweet florals and strawberries. Earthy light cherries and raspberries. Very delicate light red fruit. Could pass off as a bourgogne or even a chambolle village.

• 2004 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon John Riddoch 87 Points

  Bordeaux like nose with earth, green capsicums and dried dustiness paired with classic cigar and tobacco nuances. Fruit base made up of menthol lifted juicy and round blackcurrants. Essentially aussie with discernable sunshine fruits but providing restrained silky and elegant finish.

  Lifted violet fruits. More pure primary cabernet fruits coming through framed by fresh french vanillin oak. Lightly sweet and very undeveloped as of now. Will blossom with time.

  Perfumed violets, some black brambly cherries, slight earthiness and leather. Nicely balanced palate with leathery licourice black fruits. Still too young to drink but does show some good tertiary characters devloping already.

• 2005 Henschke Shiraz Hill of Grace 91 Points

  Menthol, after 8 mints, mint mocha coffee powder. Very attractive nose but predominantly still aussie. Elegant poised wine showing blackforest cake fruits. Subtle and supple delivery of etherealy sweet fruits. Cool french vanillin oak tampered with american oak sweetness and lightly toasted. Despite all its aussie roots, this srikes a balance with its leaning towards french styled elegance. In all, as its name suggests, a very graceful effort...would love to see how it will age. Currently, very primary still but the fruits are pure and focused with a touch of classiness.

  Ripe rich black fruits that shouts australia but still showing balance and despite its bigness and sunshine ripeness, it does seem to be able to strike a balance. Fruits are focused , classy and polished with some spicy cloves and tarry nuances. Nice velvety dark milk chocolatey mouthfeel from start to finish too. Drinking now but probably nicer with a few more year of bottle age.

  Black brackish thick viscous liquid with a mahogany wood shine . A gorgeous rich grand nose of medicinal , chinese medicated plaster, orange blossoms, jing to pipa cough syrup all simmer and concentrated with unctuous dark coffee, mocha and the most concentrated of toffee caramel cream! This is a slow simmered medicinal concoction of the gods! Deep dark flavours permeat the very soul! Teeth staining, nerve wrecking stuff. Unctous, superfluous, decadent, opulent with visions of grandeur filing the senses! Life giving elixir of the gods! A legend in its own classification without parallel.

I believe everyone was swooning by the time we got to the hill of grace and resurrected on the 1909 para tawny .
