Introduction
Masterclass of current releases and aged 1990 vintages of iconic and special bin penfolds wines. The most generous spread of wines provided by Foster's . This was mind blowingly generous and a shame as there were 14 wines in all with half being the recent 2007 (2005 for grange) releases and the other half being 1990s. Most of the recent vintages were still too young to drink and being the top of Penfolds portfolio of wines , tended to be still big , rich and ripe with alcohol still prevalent. That said, most of these recent releases were considerably balanced and should reward those with patience.
Flight 1 - The 1990s (8 Notes)
Definitely rewarding with patience, the 90s were definitely more classically australian before the parkerisation. A once in a lifetime tasting experience.
Flight 2 - Current releases (1 Note)
Most of the current releases were unsuprisingly similar and monolithic for now except the Bin 707 which was half opened for business. The 2005 grange was too tight and still harshly tannic to taste.

Slightly reductive with soy notes showing. A little tired and definitely should be drunk now . A bunch of withered eucalyptus leaves mixed together with aged cigar. Still some mocha, cedar oak with pretty balanced blackcurrant fruits.

A classic! This is what aussie is all about. Ethereally sweet fruits of black cherries, black and blue berries. Delicious, enticing with a tinge of eucalyptus and cigar box , all carried by a big puff of tobacco leaves. ...make it an expensive limited edition cuban cigar haven. Dry firm tannins and lengthy finish.

Sweeter fruits, more simplistic with menthol lifted rounded currant fruits. Clean fun smooth fruit flavours sliding down the throat.

Perfumed violets, inkish dark round succulent berries and black currants. Deeply dark flavoured yet supple fruits all nicely balanced drinking now, providing for juicy long lasting gobs of joy!

Fresh! round plummish eucalyptus tainted fruits peppered with some black peppercorns. Really delicious, mouth watering fruits. A classic! Balanced in the eucalyptus. Very rounded and smooth.

1990 Penfolds Bin 90A 91 Points

Licourice mintyness shoots up the nasal passge peppered with some paine grille and minty black peppercorns. Excellent permeation into the senses. Very airy fairy with a little alc lifting this volatile wine into the inner recesses of the inner taste buds. Spicy cherry fruits wrapped in licourice and the finest of tobacco and black gunpowder tea leaves. Feels a bit earthy and finishing with like a black hacks cought drops. Immaculate length.

Rich opulent black polished fruits with licourice. Perfumed! with hints of minty eucalyptus. A wine of poise and finesse . A blend of spicy currant fruits. Mouthfilling and nostril filling wine with smokey gunsmoke, dark mocha , paine grille, godiva 99% cocoa chocolate married perfectly with delicious balanced fruits. Extremely good!
