  • 2000 Château Giscours 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    A slight hint of copper/brown on the edgse. Seems ready to drink now. Soft and mellow with good, moderate tannins. Drank at dinner with Alexander van Beek the winemaker and was not decanted.

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Drank with the winemaker - Alexander. Nice terrior (a dustiness I like) and spiciness on the nose (due to the Cab Franc). Tastes younger than the Giscours 2000 - probably should age a little longer? More acidic however on the middle palate - would like to see if that hotness reduces over time. It had not been decanted and was poured straight from the bottle so I would have liked to taste it after decanting.

    Initially I like this and it did not feel like a second label. (However, I tasted the Margaux 1999 after and realised why it is a second label) Traditional Bordeaux for me with heavy tannins and a hot acidic finish. Better than the 2000 in my opinion. It was not decanted.

    Initially I like this and it did not feel like a second label. (However, I tasted the Margaux 1999 after and realised why it is a second label) Traditional Bordeaux for me, this had lighter tannins than the 2003 which made it feel like it was at its peak. Had a hot acidic finish.

    The best Chateau Margaux of the evening from my perspective. A smooth long finish and full bodied tannins. A hint of orange/brown around the edges but a full bodied nose which entices.

    A very enticing and powerful nose. Strong earthy dustiness but impressed far less than the 1999 once I began to drink it. Less full bodoes on the palate than the 1999 and seems to be aging as it has probably softened too much? Not decanted which was a fault for it.

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Great chalky, dusty nose, almost like a South African Cab nose. This was from a magnum so would not have aged as quickly as the normal bottles which I believe are now at their peak according to the winemaker who was with us. The taste was not as great as the bouquet but a classic bordeaux and this was better than the 1993 but for me behind the 1999.

    The type of Sauternes I do not enjoy. Significantly metallic initially on the palate with a hint of liquorice. If not for that I would have enjoyed it.
