Introduction

Kaisa brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Hob Nob Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 80 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Vin de Pays d'Oc

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A really dark red, bordering on black, with a definite purple tinge to it. The nose is very spicey, baking spices, cinnamon, cardemon, orange peel, sweet, also cassis. The palate is also spicey, just like the nose, not much tannins, very easy drinking, sweet. Meh, not for me, too sweet and christmasy. 50+4+8+12+6=80

  • 2007 Domaine des Ouleb Thaleb Syrah Tandem 84 Points

    Morocco, Rabat/Casablanca, Zenata

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A dark red with a purple tinge to it. Quite a meaty nose to it, I was quite sure this was a Syrah, also lots of blackberry. On the palate, not much tannins, quite sweet and fruity, blackberries. An ok wine, shows clear characteristics of Syrah, nice. 50+4+9+14+7=84

Closing

I've been wanting to try the Moroccan wine for a while, now I had my chance. I agree with the other tasters that this was a very Rhône-like wine, nice. The other wine was a sweet VdP d'Oc CS, Hobnob does not impress me.
