Popped the cork and poured a taste, then let sit in the cellar for several hours. Huge expressive nose of wipe berries and earthy notes. This is true to what I associate with Kanzler, rich, bold and ripe, with the fruit dominating. Some root beer-like notes to go with the exotic wild berry flavors. Thankfully the finish was a tad short because I was getting nothing but alcohol on the finish. Its an interesting wine, not my style, but it seems to have a lot of energy and vibrancy despite the fruit forwardness. I don't see this declining anytime soon.
Popped this and poured to compare to the Kanzler. A smokey, earthy nose that seemed to me more in the Rhys style. But, this one also veers into the lush, ripe and bold fruit camp (vintage perhaps?). There are juicy dark red fruits with penetrating cola notes. Similar to the Kanzler, this also has energy and vibrancy and has more complexity and interest. The finish is a bit longer than the Kanzler without the alcohol. Instead I get some interesting mint herbal tea and some noticeable tannins.
