  • 2002 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

    A shade darker than the Raveneau but this lightened with air. Lower pitched than that wine, weightier, and less obvious Chablis core. Some wood shows. Dull and bitter on the finish. Not as good as it should be and disturbingly loose and unfocused.

  • 2002 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Forêt

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

    Still light yellow. Seemed rich and truffled right out of the bottle but quickly shed its fat to show underlying brine and spine. Some sulfur that blows off. Lighter style but plenty of intensity, excellent acidity and finish with a bit of that Raveneau honeysuckle. Much more impressive than this cru usually is chez Raveneau and far superior to the Dauvissat Forest tonight. Drink or hold.

Closing

In short, the Dauvissat was bigger and more '02 in style, while the Raveneau was finer and more identifiably Chablis. I usually find the former more impressive from this site, but not tonight.
