Introduction
I ran an informal wine tasting for 20 in the village. They wanted a range of wines available easily locally costing around £7. None of the attendees know much about wine - but they seemed to enjoy themselves, and asked sensible questions. It did essentially turn into a drinking session with friends - great fun!
Flight 1 - The Whites (4 Notes)
As well as these whites we also had a prosecco from M+S - very floral and not too sweet - everyone enjoyed it. Vinho Verde was super and easy t drink - the Noon Gun a bit boring, tho easy enough, the white bordeaux was all that could be hoped for, and the Begude not to fat and flabby
Flight 2 - The Reds (5 Notes)
Much more interest in the reds - and after the 5 whites everyone had loosened up so more discussion was had. I enjoyed the Bojo - others less so, Longitude was a bit heavy - the Vieille ferme was a crowd pleaser and clos de los siete showed it was a class above - which everyone noticed
Closing
For fun I asked them to choose their favourite and least favourite red and white of the evening. Favourite white was the Vircoulon, and least favourite was the Noon Gun. With reds nearly everyone plumped for the clos de los siete, with the beaujolais being the least favourite. I then asked for their favourite if you ignored clos de los siete and la vielle ferme was the run away winner.

very pale almost colourless. crisp apple and citrus fruits, and a refreshing spritz. Simple and refreshing

2009 Château Vircoulon Blanc 85 Points

Very good crisp bordeaux blanc. Pale, citrus fruit with some depth -quite refreshing. Excellent Value

Pale yellow nose of gooseberries and crisp fruits. Full & creamy texture with good acidity and a refreshing finish

2009 Domaine Bégude Vin de Pays d'Oc Le Bel Ange 84 Points

Yellow colour. Very open nose of grapefruit and peach. Hints of banana I think. Lighter in the mouth than I anticipated - not cloying at all. Good chablis like chardonnay - has some Chenin too but not sure how much.
