nose: dark, almost metallic, someone said menthol and I went with that. Also felt dusty with sweet licorice underneath palate: delicate tannin, charred fruit, but very seamless on the palate. At first I was too enamored with the nose on the 3 glass to give this as much attention as it deserved, but upon returning to it, the fruit here appeared higher in quality compared to #3 (Gudarra). Very nice wine.
nose: red-toned, bit of musty paper (which Eric pointed out to be sulfur) palate: pruney, papery again. Just not very interesting to me. Kind of blah. Bit of sweet oak here and there. But mostly blah. That is what you get for sending me out hunting for Southern Italy with 48 hrs notice... ;)
the nose on this was wild. Just wild. I haven't had many occasion to pick up basil infused tomato sauce on wine, so this was quite the eye-opening experience. Adam said pesto - the basil was that intense. And I love basil. THe palate tasted black fruits, and the weight was lighter than I would have liked. My tastebuds remembered licorice, and I remember noting that the quality of fruit in this wine was less than that of #1. But the nose...I could smell that for an entire evening and be happy.
nose: sweetly oaked, bit of beef to the aroma palate: very nice wine. No way would I have ever guessed Italian, however, had this been blind. Fruit forward, well-integrated oak. A fun wine. Captured my attention much more easily than the sicilian on the table next to it.
nose: tomatos with stems, some dill, very vegetal, but in the way that vegetables taste wonderful in the summer sun. palate: green, high acidity, but easy to drink. Reminded me of tomato juice - I would love to have this with pasta. My favorite of this flight, much preferred over both versions of the 2001.
a beast. complete bruiser. The nose had rootbeer candy elements, but also resin. The palate was brutal on the tannin, with less perceived acidity than earlier bottles in the flight. It didn't do well after the 3 Serpicos, to my palate. And did I mention it was a bruiser?
