The theme was Burgundy Varietal Reds from the USA or France. Bottles are served blind, with the owner knowing which wine is his. Danny, Gaby B, Jorge B, and Matt were in attendance.
We had a fantastic showing. The Arbois was my favorite wine, followed closely by the Ambigram barrel sample, but we're really splitting hairs here because I would really love to have a few bottle of any of tonight's wines. As is usually the case, we probably had a better time shooting the sh*t than drinking the wines, but we had a blast and really got lucky with the wines.
2006 August Briggs Pinot Noir Dijon Clones
USA, California, Napa Valley
Nose of tabasco sauce with some sweet notes, like a georgia peach hot sauce. high alcohol, none of the sweetness carries onto the palate. also some stone fruits on the nose (prunes, plums). nice brick red color, soy sauce and seaweed sushi. nice wine that needs a little more time. it still drinks like an extremely young wine. Gaby B's bottle.

2007 Ambigram Cellars Pinot Noir
USA, California, Napa Valley
Bottled barrel sample (bottled in March 2010). Big nose of caramel, peanut brittle, extra toasty oak, slightly candied dark cherries. Sour cherries on the palate, dusty tannin "clearly going for a french style, but obviously californian". Extremely complex wine. Very juicy, opulent fruit. Very well-made wine, looking forward to the final bottling. Extremely promising wine. Jorge B's wine.
