Started with an objective lecture on the two regions and followed with the tasting.

Overall this was a very good learning experience. These german wines are correctly made but lack finesse, style and complexity for my personal taste. They are not worth the prices in my point of view. This was a limited experience but revealed a great deal about the regions.
2004 Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Kronsberg Müller-Thurgau Kabinett trocken 82 Points

Almost white color, very very bright already hinting for the great acidity to come on the palate. Floral aromas and some white fruit. Balanced and short.

2002 Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Kronsberg Silvaner Kabinett trocken 85 Points

Straw yellowish color with some green nuances. Bright and limpid. Very mineral on the nose, some fume and honey notes. On the palate it´s bone dry, short finish.

Straw color with green nuances. Muted nose, simple. I´m sorry but this is just weak. Definately not worth the price.

Bright Straw color, fume notes on the nose, white fruit and after a while a sweaty note. The high residual sugar is a little over the edge. Should match well with smoked salmon.

2002 Domdechant Werner Hochheimer Kirchenstück Riesling Spätlese trocken 89 Points

This was the winner of the night for most people in a tight dispute with the Halbtrocken 2001. Bright yellow color with some greenish and golden nuances. On the nose it´s very complex and intense revealing petroleum and honey, very pleasant nose. Good body and seems still young, should live on.

This came in a close second place. Golden yellow color, very complex on the nose with mineral, fume, honey, raisins. Good body and a good, lingering finish.
