Tasting of Zind-Humbrecht w/ Olivier Via Video Conference

Introduction

Was Invited to a small intimate tasting to be held by Olivier who was at the Liquid Arts Office in Montreal, he could not make it out to Vancouver, so they set up a video conference. There was about 8 of us from the Vancouver Market Tasting the wine. Somehow I was invited, but I ain't going to complain about that.

  • 2007 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot d'Alsace 89 Points

    France, Alsace

    C: Pale+ Gold,
    A: Clean, Med+ Intensity
    Floral, Ripe "Golden Grapey", Elderberry, Opening up with a Powdery Sweetness [reminded me off dental toothpaste]
    T: Dry, Med+ Acid, Med Body, Med Intensity, Med+ Finish, Med+ Alc
    Spicy, Grapey/Creamy Fruits, Minerally[Tight Mineral]

    Conclusion, well made wine good concentration and balance

  • 2007 Zind-Humbrecht Muscat Goldert 93 Points

    France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

    C: Med+ Gold [maybe even slightly amber], Slightly Frizzante
    A: Med+ Intensity, Clean
    Mineral, dried porcini powder, earth, shells, Floral[white flowers]
    T: Dry, Med+ Acid, Med Body, Med Alc, Med+ Intensity, Long Finish
    Super Tight Mineral, CItrus, Green Apple

    Conclusion Outstanding, Olivier mentioned could decant this for 24hrs [And I can definitely see that being Possible with out tight the minerality is]

  • 2007 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Herrenweg de Turckheim 90 Points

    France, Alsace

    C: Med Golden, Firzzante
    A: Clean, Med Intensity, Interesting Nose of Lime/Citrus, A Hightone almost Ester coming through, little plastic more so then petrol, and Floral
    T: ever so slightly off Dry, Med Acid, Med Alc, Med Body, med intensity, long finish
    Good Fruit, Pink Grapefruit, Round/Rich feel in the mouth

    Conclusion, I like the Palate [91pts] more then the nose [87pts]. But a good drink for sure

    C: Deep Gold
    A: Pronounced Nose, Clean, Rich Pineapple, Creamed Peaches, Honey, Lanolin, Spice, Mineral
    T: Med Sweet, Med- Acid, Med+ body, med+ intensity, med+ alc, Long finish. Tropical Fruit, Spice, honey

    Conclusion, A Luscious wine, but still very tight

Closing

All Wines, Concentration was there, wines could stand the test of time for sure, So Minerally Wound up in a good way
