Our House

Another great year. Russ and Mike drove out and were in charge of the sauce, bread, and pasta. Chris made the usual incredible desserts and Traci was in charge of the cheese and appetizer table.
Here's a list of all the wines from the party and who brought them.

I wrote up tasting notes on only 10 of the 29 wines before the palate was completely destroyed and I only scored the Pinot Noirs
2003 Tablas Creek Rosé
USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles
(6/19/2010)
disclaimer: I'm inexperienced with Rose. fairly dark colored for a rose, almost like a very old bordeaux.
n: light fruit scents
p: very smooth mouthfeel, almost glycerin like
f: med/light finish
Quite refreshing

1997 Pianpolvere Soprano Barolo Bussia
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
(6/19/2010)
Certainly looks like a barolo coming out of the bottle.
Nose of musk, earth, and cherry. Palate was slight black licorice and lots of tanned leather. Finish was palate cleansing with lots of tannis remaining.
Impressive wine.
This will cellar for a long time...

1999 Chateau St. Jean Cabernet Sauvignon Cinq Cépages
USA, California, Sonoma County
(6/19/2010)
Still super dark in color with huge earth and dirt nose.
The palate is BIG, this has lots of structure left and the tannis are gripping on the finish which was quite long.

1990 Cain Vineyard & Winery Cain Five
USA, California, Napa Valley
(6/19/2010)
Dark wine with lots of leather and earth. The palate is dominated by the earth, too much for me. The finish had a slight tartness to its medium length.

2007 Two Hands Shiraz Bella's Garden
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
(6/19/2010)
This is a monster. A very dark wine with heat on the nose wrapped around lots of dark fruit. The palate has great structure with fruit and tannis. The finish is very long.
I'm holding the last one.

Pinot funk on the nose, I love it. Very nice dark tart fruit on the palate with a beautiful smooth perfect finish.

2006 Sea Smoke Pinot Noir Ten 93 Points
USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
(6/19/2010)
Good funk and incense nose, very interesting. Slight candied fruit palate but the finish is stunning.
I'm not sure this will cellar for 10 years though, I might have to test out an '06 southing to see if they're short term too.

2008 David Arthur Chardonnay
USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
(6/21/2010)
Golden straw in color with pear on the nose, I was thinking albarino. Pear present on the palate and has a nice mouthfeel for a chard. Good quality wine.

1982 Markham Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
USA, California, Napa Valley
(6/21/2010)
Nose of rusty nails and old leather. Palate still has some fruit but no tannis, not suprising for 28 year old cali cab. The finish was med/+.
Very nice and fun to drink such an old classic.
