Steak Night @ Ian's

Brought big red wines and ordered Flannery steaks.....hard to beat. While the wine was great, the food prepared by Jen and Ian was hard to top. Great appetizers, perfectly prepared steaks, wonderfully baked figs, and melt-in-your-mouth prosciutto were amazing.

  Gold color. Nose of apple, lemons, and pears. Intense apple juice on the initial attack...thought that this might be over the hill or oxidized at first. Heat came through too on my glass. A relatively enjoyable chardonnay.

  Light color with a nose of meyer lemons and white flowers. There was a brisk frizzante at play here that, over time, settled down. Didn't mature much over the course of a couple hours. A nice sipping wine.

  Hot nose with a melange of dark berries. Very closed wine that only produced limited black fruit and chocolate notes. Alcohol was apparent on both the nose and palate. Wait another 5-10 years before drinking as it borders on undrinkable at this point.

  Dark color with christmas spice on the nose. Wine had really dense fig, cherry, and red florals seemlessly integrated throughout. Wonderful structure...this is built to last.

  Another surprising bottle for all of us upon the reveal. Almost a consensus that this was a Chateauneuf de Pape...nose was filled with kirsch, black pepper, meat drippings and musty olives. Very rich body with subtle clove spice, succulent cherry and strawberry with hints of a light espresso. Very nice.

  Would have sworn this was a left bank 2003 bordeaux. oops! Really elegant cherry on the nose - actually, smells just like Swisher Sweets....light, fruity pipe tobacco. The wine has really nice musky quality to it, was surprised when it was revealed.

  Not much on the nose...some subtle cherry and smoke. Beautiful, sexy mouthfeel that really turned this wine around. Really elegant cigar flavors integrate quite nicely with ripe cassis, cherry, and walnut flavors. Long finish.
