Introduction
Valerie came to vist me in D.C. during the hottest weekend of the year. It was 100+ so we went to Weygandt Wines in Cleveland Park to taste some goodies. Also drank some wine at the apartment.

really zesty again. had over the course of a couple of hours and became a bit smoother with air. valerie smelled it blind and said "smells like alsace" so that's a good thing. held onto the bottle because etienne hugel signed it!

surprised by how pleasant this moderately-priced pinot was. loads of cherry cola on the nose, but also some cinnamon and clove. plush tannins, good acid, pleasant mouthfeel. cherries, cola, some black pepper. a bit simple, but this brings a lot yummyness for the price.

totally adequate sauv blanc. lemons on the nose. some hints of grass on the palate. good pineapple and lemon flavors backed up with a medium body and medium acid.

not bad. a bit simple. a bit too much white peach for me. fruity, simple, lacks complexity or zippy acid to make it really interesting.

the nose shows honey, pears. medium bodied, really creamy. good amount of fresh apple and pear fruit, backed up by solid nutty/smokiness and a bit of toast. would go really well with creamier pasta dishes and chicken.

the nose is filled with tobacco, smoke and chalk. light and fresh, but lots of good black cherry fruit, some smoke, cherries, pipe tobacco. intriguing.

really jammy, fruit forward wine with some good structure. mocha on the finish. for the price, this is a great, jammy red wine to have with burgers and such.

tasted after a full day being opened and this is still a young pup needing years and years to show its full potential. that said, i loved the intensity of the plum, black currant fruit, the graphite and iron flavors, the roasted coffee. so well structured. mouth-coating tannins that need time, but this is a really seductive wine.

valerie summed up this wine quite well when she said, she didn't know whether she loved it or hated it. "it's an experience." and, that it is. and in a world of bland, uninspired wines, joly always gets me hot and bothered. diesel, honey, melon on the nose. lots of white peach, pineapple, more diesel, honeycomb, apricot jelly. some botrytis in here for sure. so creamy and thick, but the zippy acid makes it easy to drink. a kind of beeswax thing on the finish. i think this is a wine to sip and explore, to drink for the sake of a unique experience, even if you can't stomach half a bottle of it.

again, same notes as last time. really like the almond paste that comes out over the apple, pear and honey. would like to taste this in another year to see if it develops some more secondary flavors.
