Introduction

Last Friday, my wife and I joine another couple for Thai food. We opened three bottle to go with thte food.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2004 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett 91 Points

    Germany, Nahe

Pale golden in color. The nose has wet rocks, pears and some pineapple. Also a slight petrol note. Complex but youthful. Went great with some spinach pot stickers. Still young but no harm now. A slight amount of sweetness perhaps a bit more than expected.

  • 1994 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Heimbourg Vendange Tardive 93 Points

    France, Alsace

OMG, what a nose. Intoxicating. Deep golden in color. The nose is lychee's, pineapple, some floral/perfumey notes. Depth. Wow. Viscous and sweet. On the palate, this is very good but there is a hint of Gewurtz bitterness and petrol that hurts the finish. Still, a very good match for my Tofu green curry. No hurry on this, but it is in a good place. I should have saved some just to keep sniffing.

  • 2005 Ridge Zinfandel York Creek 90 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District

Another solid Ridge wine. This took some time to open and probably should have been decanted. Ruby/purple in color. The nose, after some time, is somewhat spicy but more berries and some cassis. On the palate, there is depth of texture. Some complexity. Some earthiness. I don't think this wine ever really opened fully. At this point, I would decant 3 hours for this or wait a couple of years.
