Can't believe how indecisive I was about which Coudoulet I liked better. With every new food, new qualities emerged. Overall they were all showing nicely.
2005 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel 91 Points

Evolving beautifully. Tried alongside '06 and '07 and all are completely different animals. This showed a great roasted game meat quality, olives, slight earthy funk alongside kirsch, toast, and spice. While richer than the '06 and slightly lighter than '07, obviously a more evolved bottle.

2006 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel 89 Points

Alongside '05 and '07. The lighter of the three showing more grenache qualities. Wild strawberries, fresh herbs, and balanced acidity. While this is a great bottle and could be a substitution for PN, the other two vints were more of the style I was fond of this evening.

Nice work. Alongside '05 and '06, this showed the best to me as well as having the potential to evolve into something quite complex. While the '05 was more evolved, this was richer, deeper, and more extracted. Some tannin structure, but not too much. Very meaty, Mourvedre dominating. Red plum, kirsch, spices, and cocoa. Well balanced acidity. While trying to figure out which I liked best, new foods came out and my opinion was bouncing back and forth like pong. They all showed beautifully.

1989 Château Cheval Blanc 92 Points

Very little has changed with this one in the last 3 years. Took 30 minutes to show. Elegantly perfumed with berries and spice, leather, little bit of brett, and pencil lead. Delicate and feminine palate with the slightest dusty tannins on the finish. Great acidity and rather fresh still. While it won't get better, this showed very nice.
