  • 2001 Domaine Le Soula Le Soula Blanc

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes Catalanes

    Mid to pale straw. Lovely nose of oatmeal and toasted sesame, slightly remaniscent of BeauVV05. Quite a rich texture cut through with nice acidity. Long. A touch oxidative. Plenty left in this, could probably do with a bit longer. ****

  • 2007 Domaine Le Soula Le Soula Blanc

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes Catalanes

    Far grassier than the 01 with a sauv blanc nose initially, though this subsides with a bit of air. A little more chemical. Palate far more similar to 01 though. Possibly a slight twang towards the finish and a touch less mineral. ***1/2

  • 1990 Domaine Gramenon Côtes du Rhône Ceps Centenaires

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône

    Quite a meaty, open nose. Grenache-led ripe, rounded texture. Quite sweet. Lacks complexity cf the 90 Verset alongside but very pleasant. Takes on weight in the glass. ***1/2

  • 1990 Noël Verset Cornas

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas

    Lovely nose. A mixture of blood, green pepper and a touch of sweet northern rhone syrah. Proper Cornas. Nicely rustic edge. Sauvage. Good acidity. A touch of black olive coming through on the nose. Long. Proper, slightly old-fashioned. ****

  • 1974 Blandy's Madeira Sercial

    Portugal, Madeira

    Deep, dense, tawny brown. Slightly marred by a good dose of sediment. Gorgeous nose, brown sugar, very crystaline. Figgy and nutty. Sweet-seeming nose and attack balanced by lovely dryness and reasonable persistence on the finish. Good. ***1/2

My WOTN, the Verset followed by the 01 Gauby. Good atmosphere, decent food that complimented the wine and excellent company. Home at a decent time too. Thanks all.
