Outstanding bottle of wine. Classic and pure bright cherry, tar and sandalwood aromas. Concentrated but elegant on the palate with beautiful bright cherries and strawberries on the attack transitioning to dark chocolate and tar building through the long, long finish. This is one worth revisiting each year.

  • 2001 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Barolo Vürsù Vigneto Campè

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Huge and young. Tasted over the course of eight hours, and nothing could get past the tight, tarry tannins. Almost felt like it ruined my palate for other wines that evening. This will be great, but not for a long time; the only thing this will bring you now is a buzz.

    Hold 5+ years. 92-94 -JRS

  • 2001 Luigi Pira Barolo Marenca 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Well received by the group. New leather and tar muddled with dark cherries and plum. Still lots of tannins giving this a large mouth-presence. Many more year left in this to continue to improve, but awesome now.

    Drink now or hold. 92+
