Introduction

It was a few days before my father's 53rd, so my father, mother, sister, cousin and i hung around and sipped some wine. Good times, great conversation. Happy birthday, dad!

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • NV Tissot (Bénédicte et Stéphane / André et Mireille) Crémant du Jura Rosé 88 Points

    France, Jura, Crémant du Jura

bright salmon color. very floral on the nose with distinct watermelon as well. high acid, very mineral-driven, with lots of strawberries as well. solid, unique sparkler.

  • NV Louis de Sacy Champagne Grand Cru Brut 84 Points

tasted like a different wine this time. this time it had a lot more almond paste, some vanilla. creamy, with apple and toasted pear. a bit simple.

  • 2007 Sierra Vista Roussanne 86 Points

USA, California, Sierra Foothills, El Dorado County

the nose on this shows pineapple and a little bit of almond. white peach on the palate, hints of vanilla. soam oak treatment, but not too much. not enough intensity or weight to be a great wine, but it's a solid effort.

  • 2008 OTP Pinot Noir 86 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

the nose on this wine was intoxicating. lots of dark fruit, mulling spices. but on the palate it just didn't do it for me. i liked the mouthfeel, the velvety feel, but the tannins were just too light and the wine really dropped off on the finish. shame because the nose was really nice.

  • NV Taylor (Fladgate) Porto 20 Year Old Tawny 92 Points

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

this port is always a treat. the nose is just beautiful, and the intensity of flavors and weight on the palate is great. so much figs! my dad liked this wine a lot, as did my mom. it's just a lovable bottle.
