Introduction

Our second tasting stop today was Babcock just a little farther down the highway from our first stop at Foley heading towards Lompoc. The winery is one of the older facilities along the highway with what is almost a make shift open air tasting room wedged between the winery buildings. The staff on duty this day was very well informed about all of the products, winery and vineyards. Tasting fees are $10.00 per person for 8-9 wines which includes your tasting glass. The wines ranged the gambit from a very unusual White Syrah as a starter to the NV Red Table Wine to standards such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. All of the wines were good but once again, just like our first stop at Foley, nothing was outstanding enough to warrant an immediate purchase.

  • 2009 Babcock Syrah Identity Crisis 88 Points

    Tasted at the winery. Salmon color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of grapefruit, peach, bubble gum and apricot. Flavors of peach, apricot and a hint of grapefruit. Medium acidity, light to medium body. Drink now. 88+. Unique wine.
