We take to the road and travel to Campbellford for "Wines Under $14"

• 2009 Ruffino Orvieto Classico

  Italy, Umbria/Lazio, Orvieto, Orvieto Classico

  General consensus here was it was ok. For the price there are better things available. All the other whites we had at previous meetings were superior to this.

This was the first blind tasting for the group. There was a ringer at 2-3 times the price of the other wines. Members were asked to write a tasting note for each wine, determine the country of origin, the grape type and which wine was the ringer (no small task).

• 2007 Bodegas Castaño Monastrell Yecla La Casona de Castano Old Vines

  Spain, Murcia, Yecla

  66% of members had this as their least favorite WOTN

• 2009 Mezzomondo Negroamaro Salento IGT

  Other than 1 member, this was everyone's WOTN, pretty astounding really!

• 2007 Shingleback Shiraz McLaren Vale

  Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

  This was added as the "Ringer". It's performance must be questioned as nobody chose it as the superior wine ( based on price). In addition, 33% of members said it was their least favorite wine!

• 2009 Concha y Toro Shiraz Casillero del Diablo Reserva

  Stood it's ground amongst the others. More than one thought it had fabricated/spoofilated characteristics. 1 member's WOTN.
