Wine #1, paired with squash salad with bacon and hazelnuts. I'll state right up front that I am not a fan of the 2007 vintage Pinot Noirs from Oregon. They are (for the most part) way too thin for my palate, and I just don't enjoy them. It was the same with this wine, a 2007 Pommard clone from Meredith Mitchell Vineyard in McMinnville. Cherry fruit with leather, but way too thin for me, which made the light flavors get lost with the salad pairing.
Wine #2, paired with roasted tomato bruschetta with mushrooms and fromage blanc. Very nice pairing, with the fruitiness of the wine contrasting nicely with the fromage. Some decent grip, but mostly fruit and a bit of earth at this point.
Wine #3, paired with lamb meatballs with lentils. Lots of tobacco and leather in this wine, which is drinking very nicely for such a young Sangiovese (the winery recommends holding until 2012). 100% Sangiovese Grosse, clone VCR-6, from Ciel du Cheval Vineyard on Red Mountain. Fairly tannic, but the cherry fruit and leather stand out nicely.
Wine #4, paired with mushroom and blue cheese potato gratin. The pairing win of the day, with the blue cheese matching perfectly with the fruit and acid of the Cab. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Ciel du Cheval Vineyard on Red Mountain, and is the first 100% Cabernet varietal bottling for Cana's Feast in over a decade. Lots of cassis and plum fruit, with tobacco backing it up. Finish is still fairly tannic, so I'd recommend laying this one down for a year or two, and drinking over the following 5-6 years.
Bonus pour. This is coming along nicely! I'd still recommend holding for another year or two, however. Nice fruit, with the Cab Franc really standing out. Blueberry, earth and spice. Tannins are still a bit dusty, but the fruit and acid back them up nicely, pointing to some additional evolution down the road. Nice wine!
