Qupe Ethan Verdad Winery Tasting

Introduction

The final tasting stop of the day was Qupe about a block farther of the main square on the same side as Andrew Murray. The tasting room is good sized with a primary oak design throughout including a fairly lengthy bar area that always seems to be full. The tasting room staff is very knowledgeable on all of the products being served with a demeanor that leans towards "California laid back" while pouring and describing the wines. The tasting fee is $10.00 and covers eight wines plus they tossed in one bonus wine on this day for a total of nine wines. Most of the wines came in at the 88-90 points mark with the clear standouts being the 2007 Qupe Syrah Nielson Vineyard, 2007 Qupe Syrah Alisos Vineyard and the exciting 2007 Ethan Syrah Watch Hill Vineyard. A few bottles of the Ethan Syrah managed to find their way into the shipper for the return flight home.
