    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Interesting nose that was faintly sweet and herbal with pronounced minerality. Chalky structure with huge acidity. Dry and bordering on astringent to me. This seemed a little flat but evolved with time to show coffee and dry wood tones. A nice wine in superior company tonight.

  • 1993 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia 94 Points

    Deep, complex and layered nose. Herbs, licorice, plums, flowers, and an incredible black olive streak. Clean but charmingly rustic with forestal/fungal and mineral tones. Elegant, balanced, in a great place. A truly outstanding Barolo!

    Sexy, feminine nose; violets, lilac. Perfumy rose chocolate, dark fruits. Beautiful nose that really carried the wine.

    Ripe, toasty nose. Modern, alluring; licorice, herbs, vanilla, flowers. Tight, acidic, but lower-toned than many of the Barolos. Very good.

    Pretty dark color. Nice tension between lean acidic dry fruit and rich deeper tones of fresh flowers, coffee, cognac. Really demonstrating the depth, balance, and elegance of good Nebbiolo. Outstanding.

    Aromatically huge with tobacco, tea, tar. Inky deep dark fruit, spice, delicate flowers on the palate. Huge finish. "Tar, tobacco, and roses have sex"
