Introduction
A great opportunity to taste 11 Rhone valley wines for $50.
Flight 1 - 2007 Southern Rhone (8 Notes)
Although all good, the only high-end Southern rhone that really seemed worth the price was the Pegau, which was head and shoulders above the rest.
Flight 2 - 2006 Guigal Cote-Rotie (3 Notes)
My first experiences with these wines, and it was a magical one. The La Mouline was definitely the most open today and was mind-blowing in a lot of ways. La Landonne certainly shows potential for significant growth from it's already high position, probably the most potential for growth from the three La La's. The La Turque was disappointing. It's a good wine, but worth only a fraction of it's price.
2007 Château de Montfaucon Côtes du Rhône Baron Louis 84 Points

Meaty, hides some of the fruit. A bit tart/hot. Overall decent, a bit more freshness would be great.

2007 Alain Jaume Lirac Clos de Sixte 87 Points

Great subtle fresh red fruit nose. Juicy palate with tannic balance. Great to drink now, possibly better in one year. Won't age much longer than that. Drink over the next few years.

Good fruit, bit of violet on the nose. Palate has red strawberries. Ready now.

2007 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 85 Points

Nose has lots of spice. Palate is average and somewhat alcoholic. One of the weaker cdps.

2007 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 95 Points

Tannic structure. Nose jumps OUT of the glass with spices and red fruits. Palate has 2-3 layers of fruit. Could use a few years before drinking to integrate and develop more of those secondary aromas and to build the palate. Awesome. 95+

A bit more meaty than other CDPs, good cooking spices. Palate is very balanced, long pleasurable finish. Very good, but nothing special yet.

Tons of berries. Palate is tannic, needs many years. Nice blackberries, blueberries, a hint of spice. Notable acidity.

2007 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape 93 Points

Very big nose with lots of pomegranate. Reminds me of a Turley zin. Palate is also similar: big, balanced, great acidity. Good, but would probably buy a Turley for the price.
