Introduction

All in all, I was very pleased with these wines, with the French whites stealing the show. I've been really impressed with Savoie and Jura every time I've had their wines and will keep an eye out for more.

Flight 1 - Sparkling (1 Note)

  • NV Domaine Labet Crémant du Jura Rosé 91 Points

    France, Jura, Crémant du Jura

    Toasted hazelnuts, cherry, strawberry, caramel, and earthy, yeasty nose. Creamy palate with fine, short-lived bubbles. Medium-plus length caramel finish. Yum.

Flight 2 - White (5 Notes)

  • 2008 Jean-Pierre et Jean-Francois Quenard Vin de Savoie Chignin Anne de la Biguerne 90 Points

    France, Savoie, Vin de Savoie Chignin

    Lemon drop, saline, and steely mineral nose. Dry palate with lemon citrus flavors and great minerality. Medium length finish. Not quite as much crisp acidity as I've had in other Jacquere wines from Savoie, but really great nonetheless.

  • 2008 Domaine Labet Chardonnay Fleur 91 Points

    France, Jura, Côtes du Jura

    Cantaloupe, pear, Meyer lemon, vanilla, and toasted oak. Full-bodied with sharp lemony acidity. This is made in a Burgundy style and could definitely use a few years of bottle time. This has lots of potential. 91+

  • 2008 Domaine Edmond Jacquin & Fils Roussette de Savoie 90 Points

    France, Savoie, Roussette de Savoie

    Tropical fruit, vanilla, and a hint of citrus. Full bodied, with rich fruit flavors and moderate-plus acidity. Reminds me of some of the non-malo CA Chardonnays like Ch. Montelena. I like it.

    Don't have a dedicated picture of the label to upload, but it features the words "Chateau Bergin" very prominently, FWIW.

  • 2007 Cave des Tilleuls (Fabienne Cottagnoud) Amigne Grand Cru, '1 abeille' Vétroz 88 Points

    Switzerland, Valais, Vétroz

    Tropical and stone fruit nose with hints of anise and a singe of alcohol. Slightly sweet, tropical, spicy palate. Moderate-low acid.

    This is a pretty rare varietal only found in the Valais. Only about 40 hectares are planted and most of it goes towards making sweet wine. In the Valais, they use the "abeille" (bee, in French) system to denote sweetness, with one being driest and 3 being the sweetest. I actually didn't get to see how many "bees" were on this bottle, but considering the low acidity if this had anything more than a few grams/L of RS it would have tasted much sweeter, so I'm making the assumption I actually tried the '1 abeille'.

  • 2009 Cave du Vieux-Moulin (Romain Papilloud) Fendant Grand Cru Amandoleyre 84 Points

    Pear and oak nose. Closed and disjointed on the palate. Lacking acid. Pass.
