    France, Vin de France

    Light dustiness on the nose and strong cassis and strawberry. Definitely not a classic French merlot and was fruit forward. A simple table wine that was very nice with chicken.

  • 1995 Helderberg Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 88 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch

    Brown more than bronze tinge. Dusty leather with a hint of vanilla and coconut on the nose. Quite complex (also a hint of marmite/yeast). THe finish was ordinary but nice tannins as they were smooth.

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion

    For me a classic French Merlot based Bordeaux (which it was) Heavy to moderate tannins and a 'flat' dry and smooth finish. Little to no fruit but a hint of Cabernet Franc in the finish.

    Dary ruby red and very rish. Light coconut and leather on the nose. This has a long finish and can still lie down for a few years.

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch, Simonsberg-Stellenbosch

    Smooth and very drinkable now. I know 04 was not their best year but this was a very nice wine. Earthy on the nose with a hint of green peppers. This is a wine worth drinking and great with cheeses.
