Introduction

Anne brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

  • 2006 Masi Serègo Alighieri in Toscana Poderi del Bello Ovile Toscana IGT 86 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    Decanted for an hour tasted double blind. A nice garnet red to the rim, not much violet in evidence. The nose was lightish with rasberry and a hint of smoke. The palate has nice acidity, red fruits, a bit of a citrusy aspect, but also a roundness probably brought on by subtle oak. Quite an enjoyable wine!

  • 2004 J. Hofstätter Meczan Pinot Nero Blauburgunder 78 Points

    Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. Good grief, this was almost yellow with age, really pale orange. The nose was weak, the palate was stronger, but tasted like dilute juice, this was waaaay over the hill, gone with the wind. Drinkable, but only just.
