Flight 1 - Whites (3 Notes)

  • 2004 Hanzell Chardonnay 92 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

Gets your attention at the finish wine with relentless intensity. Well balanced, but 30 min down gets more complex, clean like a SB, fragrant with touch of mineral.

  • 2006 Walter Hansel Winery Chardonnay Cuvée Alyce 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

No doubt Californian. Full body, liquid butter, darker yellow, exact opposite style to the Hanzell. Grabs your attention from the start but really needs food because of the oak, short finish. Seaquam mentioned the high acidity can last longer than what Parker suggestion. But it's pretty darn good right now.

  • 2009 Domaine de Chaberton Bacchus 88 Points

    Canada, British Columbia, Fraser Valley

Served Blind, pre-breathed. It has color like water, similar to Kabinett sweetness and Viognier floral quality. Someone mentioned musty. Eventually guesses able to pinpoint to BC, such as cedar creek, and eventually nailed Chaberton.

Flight 2 - Red (7 Notes)

  • 1988 Michele Chiarlo Barolo 94 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

VERY Ethereal. slightly pruny taste, Golden Amber rim approaching light brown. Medium acidity, still some fruit left. Very dry finish. My first aged barolo experience, Thank you to VanCityWino for bringing it. His gf said it was a little Moldy but I didn't find so luckily.

  • 1998 Moccagatta Barbaresco Bric Balin 95 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

94-96 Sour cherry dominated, high acidity, long long finish. After 30 minutes, malbec-like sharpness hit my palate, with tar, dark fruit, tannin bombarding in all directions. Still "Young". WOTN already ??

  • 2004 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia 92 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

DO NOT OPEN BEFORE 2013. We pre-decanted more than 1 hr but still very closed
92++ Dark Brooding, classic sangiovese nose, cherry, not too sour, med-full body, medium acidity, medium finish, well balanced.Went much better with lamb but not spices. Lots of mineral flavors came out 1 more hr later. Don't know if anyone else think so because I waited so long in the glass to air.

  • 1998 Il Palazzone Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 95 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Not too tannic upon opening but chewy body, served after breathed 2 hrs. Light ruby rim, dark almost black color, sweet plum, closest I can think of is a Cali Merlot (Paloma/pride) Very balanced and comes with some tasty new world toastiness. WOW ! Another WOTN?

  • 2001 Lamborghini (La Fiorita) Umbria Campoleone 91 Points

    Italy, Umbria

Coffee, cassis, plum, dry like a young cab. Only tasted this from the remaining few drops in the bottle, so this was obviously popular. A lot of dusty tannin but maybe cuz I was drinking from the bottom.

  • 2001 Domini Veneti Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 92 Points

Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

Slightly raisny but not overdone like a Masi syrup. Dark intense berries but only ruby/Crimson color. Mocha expresso, ready to drink. medium body yet intense, quality almost justified the price tag from an unknown producer.

  • 2000 Black Hills Estate Nota Bene 90 Points

Canada, British Columbia, Okanagan Valley, Okanagan Valley VQA

Mystery wine from Seaquam. 89-91 pts. Clear rim, ready upon popping suggest it aged. Heavy licorice nose screams of french oak. Good weight on midpalate but dry and weak finish. Spicy/Smokey, I think Dunder said it was Leathery, and someone said earthy. There was some indescribable funkiness, otherwise I would say a french blend. I guessed Spain/Portugal. We guessed all over the place: Bordeaux, South Africa , Australian cab franc...
Answer: 1/2 Cab 1/4 merlot and Cab Franc from BC. A humbling experience indeed. Despite the heavy hitter wines we drank before it, it was still showing well.
