Lovely gentle nutty nose. Incredibly intense on the palate compared to nose. Nuts, minerals. Great length - maybe a bit of dry wood on the finish. After an hour or so in the glass this exploded with marzipan on the nose. Very Good.
At first I thought I got a touch of cork - but it blew off so definitely not. Broad nutty, sour cream nose. Classic Meursault (when you know what it is). Lovely acid spine. Started a bit shorter and less intense than the Latour but added weight in the glass. Good villages wine.
Suffering from its commute when first opened. Quite deep colour for age. Lovely sweet caramel if gently decaying at the start. This added weight, richness and freshness in the glass and really came around. Lovely perfume. Beautiful.
Heard mutterings that this wasn't right when opened... what came into the glass was clean and pure with black/red fruit. Very fresh and lively and young - primary in fact. Good length. Not at all typical for 1997 - far more cool and elegant. Really very good wine.

Very pure, cool, blackcurrant nose. A very big muscular wine - but no sense of extraction or over-worked. Rich but incredibly well structured and balanced. I get the feeling this will need decades to start showing any sign of maturity - but when it gets there it will be very special. It's a delight to drink now - but in a very primary way. Interesting to compare this to a 98 I brought to an off-line a few years ago which was very disjointed and overblown - but I suspect it could come together in the same style.

A bit of rotten egg stink suggests some reduction. Vigorous swirling got rid of it eventually to reveal a very primary, fresh red fruit, muscular wine. Good acid. Again this has a long future ahead of it. Grivot really seemed to make some good 93s based on this and a Clos Vougeot I had a few years ago. Even though lots of people point to 1998 as the start of their renaissance.

Dusty nose. Quite sweet caramel characters underneath. A touch of red fruit remaining. Moderate length. Much more mature than the Echezeaux. Nice drinking in a more gentle fashion.

2000 J.M. Boillot Meursault

1964 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay 1er Cru Champans
