A really fun night with Kevin B, and John G at my place on the rare occasion when the wife and kids were gone. Good wine with good friends. It does not get any better!

  • 2005 Ilona Howell Mountain 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain

    Mystery Wine brought by Kevin. Nose: Deep red fruits (good ripeness), floral with subtle herbs. Palate: Red fruits, soft styled and very elegant. Guessed this was a CA meritage. I was very close. Delicious wine that on day 2 was still going strong. Thanks to Kevin for bringing this.

  • 2004 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Nose: Wonderful mineral and pencil lead qualities with assorted herbs. Palate: Soft and velvety with black fruits, French Roast coffee, red fruit hints and acidity showing up on the finish. Medium length but very elegant finish. This wine became more nuanced as the night went on. Wonderful and my WOTN! 94+ points.

  • 2006 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Nose: Big licorice, pepper and graphite with black fruits and garrique. Palate: Major spice, black fruits, scorched earth and some bacon fat and smoke. Medium to long finish. Solid.

  • 2005 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Quet 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Nose: Rustic with seaweed, tree bark, sasafrass, smoke and fresh mint. Palate: Big yet evolved tannins with large scaled spice, pepper, garrique and a long finish. Just a baby even after a 1 1/2 hour decant in a mag decanter. Close 2nd to the '04' Pichon-Lalande. Day 2~ Much softer tannins with black fruits, spice and pepper showing. Excellent. Next bottle of two remaining will not be opened for at least 2-3 years.
