barrel sample nose: some alcohol was prminent, but the red fruit was bright, effusive palate: almost chalky in density, the taste was both rich and bright, with a subtle forest-pine nuance. Low tannin, finish was shortish, almost dusty. Very nice - the alcohol did calm over time, but Im' pretty sensitive to it. A delicious pinot in all. I preferred this one to the AV.
nose: compared to the SC, this had a denser, darker, almost roasted nose to it. more black cherry than red. palate: darker fruit, also riper in character than the SC. More earthy tonse than the SC, similarly soft tannin. I perferred the brightness of the fruit in the SC, but only barely. Alcohol here was not quite as noticeable, either. 89-90
barrel sample nose: less sweet on the nose compared to the 2 previous wines (if that makes any sense) and definitely the greenest of the bunch. Not overtly so, but green-tinged, and then black pepper made an appearance. Interesting and arresting. palate: higher acid and greater intensity than the multi-vineyard blends. The fruit was penetrating, with grass and light tannin complementing dark cherry. Medium finish. Interesting flavors that bordered on medicinal at times, this was still lovely to drink. Of the lineup, this one felt the youngest and in need of some time to settle.

This wasn't barnyardy in the least, but it did have nice, pungent depth. palate: My favorite of the Kutch 2009s, this to me was the richest pinot noir, with delicious, savory flavors at the same time expressive of sappy, bright fruit. It finished with a signature chalk-filled mouthfeel to gush over. Loved it. 93-94 pts.

It still bugs me that I can't place it.... anyway, it was akin to a dark red jelly filling in a donut, and then elements of christmas cookie spice danced around. palate: This had the most tannin of the lineup, and was the most overtly "California" of the single-vineyards. There was no mistaking this for anything else. This wine felt less integrated than the Savoy, but with a similarly fine-textured mouthfeel and obviously stellar fruit. The tannin was so very sweet, it was like drinking ambrosia. Really, really nice wine. Barely lost to the Savoy for my palate.
