  • 2005 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Reserva Finca Ygay

    Spain, La Rioja, Rioja

    1st wine of the evening. Made in American cask and without Graciano varietal. Almost 14%. Impressive legs. Long, very long. Powder, raspberries till medicinal, lactic and oaky nose. Looking for perfection as 01. Less herby than 04. Better on the palate: subtle and gentle (not so sharped as I supposed) but acidic at the same time. Harmonious.

    Primer vino de la tarde. Elaborado en barril americano y sin Graciano. Casi 14 grados. Impresionantes lágrimas. largo, muy largo. Pólvora, frambuesas incluso una nariz medicinal, láctica y amaderada. Buscando la perfección como con el 01. Menos herbaceo que el 04. Mejor en boca: suave y amable (con menos arístas de las que supuse) pero ácido al mismo tiempo. Armonioso.

  • 2007 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Dalmau

    2nd wine of the evening. Dense purple colour. Made with French oak so more buttery taste. Very CS, truly obvious, on the nose but only 6%. Anchovies, cocoa, lactics, stinging nettles (Graciano probably), chalk and strawberries (finally Tempranillo emerges). On the palate, balanced, dense, potent wine.

    Segundo vino de la tarde. Denso color púrpura. Elaborado con roble francés así que un sabor mas amantequillado. Muy Cabernet, verdaderamente obvio en nariz aunque solo representa el 6%. Anchoas, cacao, lácticos, ortigas (probablemente la Graciano), tiza y fresas (finalmente la Tempranillo emerge). En boca es un vino equilibrado, denso, potente.

    3rd wine of the evening. Just a concentrated gold colour right in the middle and almost water for the rest. French oak. Tropical fruit season but lossing those apricot memories.Awesome Viura anyway! Tipically yogourth with strawberries nose. It was served a little warm, too calid. Better nose than palate: opulent, less acidic than expected but also artificial, chew gum. Disliked.

    Tercer vino de la tarde. Color dorado muy concentrado en el centro de la copa. Roble francés. Temporada de frutas tropicales pero perdiendo aquellos recuerdos a albaricoques. ¡Bonita Viura de todos modos!. Nariz típica de yogourth con fresas. Fue servido demasiado templado, demasiado cálido. Mejor nariz que boca: rico, menos ácido que lo esperado pero tambien artificial, chicle de mascar. No me gustó.

  • 2001 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial

    4th wine of the evening. Very chocolatey! Fully aromatic. Had lovely legs. Dark brown colour. Only 7% Mazuelo. Violets, lactic nose, very expressive with also candies and caramel. Spicey but earthy at the same time. Still oaky but succulent, clearly needs some time but this is going to be a great one. Long life ahead indeed. Elegant and under 14%. Balanced. Nice persistance.

    Cuarto vino de la tarde. ¡Muy achocolatado! Plenamente aromático. Tenia bellas lágrimas. Color marrón obscuro. Sólo 7% de Mazuelo. Violetas, nariz láctica, muy expresiva con dulces y caramelo también. Especiado y terroso al mismo tiempo. Todavía amaderado pero suculento, claramente necesita algo de tiempo pero este está llamado a ser uno de los grandes. Larga vida por delante. Elegante y por debajo de 14º. Equilibrado, de larga persistencia.

  • 1978 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial

    5th wine of the evening. Turning into a brown colour. Reduced nose but showing a meaty character, with leather and tobacco leaves. On the palate, mineral, quite good with graphite notes. Light and acidic texture. It had elegance but not enough. Vetuste after a short time.

    Quinto vino de la tarde. Volviendose de color marrón. Nariz reducida mostrando un carácter cárnico, con cuero y hojas de tabaco. En boca, mineral, muy rico con notas a grafito. Textura ligera y ácida. Tenía elegancia pero no la suficiente. Después de un poco de tiempo, se volvió vetusto.

  • 1968 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 95 Points

    6th wine of the evening. My second experience with this vintage. Superb! What a nose! Marzipan even! A watery texture but, again, but with an incredible nose: violets, roses, all flowers. Very meaty, raw for sure. Delicious!

    Sexto vino de la tarde. Mi segunda experiencia con esta añada. ¡Magnífico! ¡Menuda nariz! ¡Incluso Mazapán! Una textura acuosa, de nuevo, pero con una nariz increible: violetas, roas, todas las flores. Muy cárnico, de carne cruda. ¡Delicioso!

  • 1959 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial

    Final wine of the evening. Elegant but with real force. This is not an ancient; seems to be younger than previous bottles. Darker colour than 78 even. Powerful nose, not as fragant as 68 but better on the palate, very refreshing, nice acidity. Perfect ending. Like it so much but can not match 68´s nose.

    El vino final de la tarde. Elegante pero con auténtica fuerza. No es un anciano; parece ser más joven que las botellas previas. Color más obscuro que incluo la del 78. Poderosa nariz, no tan fragante como la del 68 pero mejor en boca, muy refrescante, con una rica acidez. Un final perfecto. Me gustó mucho pero no pudo batir la nariz de la del 68.
