Introduction
The CellarTracker Texas contingent got together for our second statewide gathering this past weekend. Our inaugural events were held in San Antonio. This time we invaded McKinney, continuing our trek around the state.
Our first event this time around was a dinner hosted by and prepared by the oskiwawas in their lovely home in McKinney. In attendance were the oskiwawas, the petitblancs, the GalvezGuys, the bstumps, the jars, the floydtps plus PURPLE and yours truly.

1964 Pio Cesare Barolo

Tasted non blind. Opened and allowed to slowly oxygenate for about seven hours before serving. Light garnet color in the glass, slightly dusty looking throughout. Nose of leather, barnyard, olvies and fennel. Flavors of tart berries, raspberries, a hint of cherries and some underlying notes of minerals. Medium acidity, fully resolved tannins, medium body. Drink now. Loved it, but withholding a rating.

1974 Gaja Barbaresco

Tasted non blind. Opened and allowed to slowly oxygenate over about seven hours. Garnet color in the glass with a slightly brownish twinge, fairly clear looking. Delicate nose of leather, birch, barnyard and forest floor. Flavors of berries, birch and a tad of raspberries. Medium acidity, fully resolved tannins, medium body. Drink now. Rating withheld.

2005 Thomas Pinot Noir Dundee Hills

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. It stops. There is something off about this bottle. It isn't corked but it doesn't smell or taste anything like a typical Thomas Pinot. No rating.

Solid flavors of black berries, black cherries but a bit of a clipped finish. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Tasted non blind. Opened a couple of hours before serving. Garnet color in the glass. clear looking throughout. Nose of leather, smoke, white pepper and a bit of flowers. Flavors of berries and cherries. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Still pretty tight, obviously still very young. Therefore no rating at this time. Hold.

Flavors of berries. Medium acidity, medium tannins. medium body. Drink now with some air time or continue to hold for at least another 4-5 years before trying again. 91?

2005 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Tasted non blind. Opened and decanted about 4 hours before serving. Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Lovely but slightly tight nose of flowers, berries, plums and a hint of barnyard. Tight flavors of berries only at this point. Bright acidity, firm tannins, medium bodied. Hold a minimum of 5 more years before trying again, I'd lean closer to 10 myself based on personal preference. No rating simply because I feel it is too young and not showing its potential.

Tasted non blind. Opened and decanted about 2-3 hours before serving. Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of soapstone, melted black licorice and a hint of black currant. Flavors of berries, currants and a hint of plums. Bright acidity, firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with a two hour decant or continue to hold. 91-92+/-?

Tasted non blind. Opened and allowed to slowly oxygenate for four hours before serving. Garnet color in the glass. slightly cloudy looking. Nose of light coffee notes up front followed by tobacco, dark berries and dark plums. Flavors of black berries and black cherries. Bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium body. Drink now with a couple of hours in the decanter or hold for another 3-4 years before trying again. 92++?

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of lilikoi and soaked pears. Flavors of yellow pears, a little honey and light notes of lemon. Medium acidity, medium body. Drink or hold. Withholding a rating because this bottle was a little off compared to previous bottles.

1955 Croft Porto Vintage
Portugal, Douro, Porto
Tasted non blind. Opened and decanted roughly 5 hours before serving, maybe more. Garnet color in the glass, fairly clear looking. Nose of licorice, toasted almonds and a hint of molasses. Hint of molasses on the palate up front followed by flavors of almonds and a light sorghum on the finish. Medium to bright acidity, full bodied. This bottle was a bit tawny but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Drink or hold.
