1st place of the tasting. Spicy, curry, sexy nose. Milk chocolate. Very aromatic with a light pepper and clove play. Big nose that bombards you with chocolate. Raisins, plums and a stinky quality on the nose as well - feminine styling. Finesse and expansive - light on its feet. Lively fruit with good acidity. A tad light on the mid palate or this wine would have been flirting with perfection. Clean flavors throughout with a touch of saline. Very young. Enormous potential. A beautiful Margaux from a lesser vintage. Recommended at post market pricing.
4th place (last) of the tasting. Dark cherry. Not as aromatic as the Margaux (duh). Some dried herbs, a little green vegetables on the nose. A light musty note with dirt trail. Big on the palate and quite mouth coating with lots of fruit. Nice Old World dark cherries, and used horse saddle. Gripping finish. Big tannin structure. Tight young finish. Not my favorite of the tasting by any means. On another level [than the Margaux, Haut-Brion and Latour]. Comparatively one dimensional and a slightly austere mouth feel...still 89 points. These notes reflect how they compared to the three others tasted.
3rd place of the tasting. Plump, cinnamon, floral nose. Rustic qualities with light leather, pink peppercorn, blackberries, licorice, and volcanic rocky soil. Eucalyptus, pink flowers. Dark styling with touches of iron. A big palate and super young. Nice acidity. The cinnamon and cherries just keep showing their face - you can't help but get your nose right up in there. Intoxicating. Deep spice and earth touches. Overall spice driven though. Pencil shavings and some gravelly scorched earth on the back end. Great structure. Put this aware for at least a decade. Give it a 6-8 hour decant if drinking today.
2nd Place of the tasting. Big nose. Huge fruit, tobacco, leather and spice. Nice robust clean pure aromas of dark chocolate, mocha and medium dark roast espresso. Touches of rock and wet gravel. A little bit of a waxy nose - plums, somewhat of a green streak too. Dark pepper spice. Strong complex and masculine. On the back end there is some pencil shaving and graphite flavors. Big backbone. This is a brooding wine though less dark and "black" than other Latour vintages. Cellar for at least ten years.
Barrel sample. Deep rich nose. Inky fresh plum and cassis. Vanilla, oak dominates this juice. Rocky and plush with a round mouth feel. Nice New World qualities. A really good wine.
Deep dark purple. Little woody but showing well extracted fruit. Dense, concentrated. Creamy palate. Super ripe and candied fruit. Purple Jolly Ranchers - baking spice. Rich body. A brooding wine. Young but tasty. Has the deliciousness factor I can't resist swaying me in the right direction.
Rusty with a touch of smoked meat on the nose. Stewed cherries and clove with some leather and cigar. The palate is shut down now and is a bit austere. Shorter tannic finish. Rougher around the edges. May be in a dumb stage now. Hold.
