Introduction

Tomas brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2002 Felix Solis Valdepeñas Viña Albali Gran Reserva 86 Points

    Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, Valdepeñas

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A nice ruby red with a tinge of brown on the edge. The nose was very expressive with lots of cassis, vanilla and coffee, even a bit of violets. The palate was much the same, with lots of tannins as well and some sweet oak. Quite an ok quaffer, very fruit forward and somehow fit well with the blizzard we are having today.

  • 2008 KWV Merlot 84 Points

    South Africa, Western Cape

    Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A ruby red with a hint of violet at the edge. The nose is somewhat expressive, with bright red cherries and round vanilla. The palate is the give away, with the typical South African burnt rubber aspect along with red berries and some tannins. Quite an ok wine, an easy drinker, but rather boring otherwise.

Closing

Quite ok wines, the Albali could be an easy crowd pleaser at 10€.
