Introduction

Not ideal to taste such huge wines from the sampling machine ( Pls see thesampler.co.uk) but still agreat opportunity to try some rare bottles.
We avoided giving marks this time as this is not a very formal way of tasting. We only rated the La mouline which was a truly exceptional wine.

Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 1973 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Tâche Grand Cru

CAnt really rate this wine. It feels old and past its peak and not sure of the original quality of the bottle. More face value than drink value

  • 1976 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Wine feels old and maybe past its good days.

  • 1929 Château Cos d'Estournel

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

An experience for sure.mild of course the best years of the palate are behind it. The nose is interesting though with nice liquorice notes. Very much ok for a 80yr old bottle variation and aging needs to be taken into account here of course. But for Cos Groupies like us this was definitely a moment of joy.

  • 1945 Château Cos d'Estournel

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

For Cos groupies like us this was ray of sunshine in a snowy london. Very much alive and vibrant wine. One might consider decanting too. Nice structure still and nice elegant nose. A good 91-92 wine but as with these old bottles its a gamble as to bottle variation etc.

  • 1961 Château Palmer

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Any chance to sample this wine is always an experience. Pls see earlier full note we have on this as that was a perfect bottle from the chateau ( and prob one of the best bottles we ever enjoyed)

Nice liquorice on the nose, beautifull wine and very much a live, vibrant and Desne. Would have never guessed this is 50yr old.

  • 1985 Antinori Solaia Toscana IGT

No formal not here.Dense colour and nose. Very powerfull still. Did not dazle us or made us want to buy more. Would not rate more than 92.

  • 1991 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 96 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Mark of a great wine. Even sampling it standing up in not ideal condition was enough to dazle us. Dense on the nose and palate. Lots of roast meats on the nose with fruit playing a second role. Long, elegant super complex. This is a great wine. We are pretty sure that with the right decanting this would be a 97+ wine

  • 1982 Penfolds Grange

    Australia, South Australia

Not much of a note but out of memory. Dense and still a baby. Long and powerfull. Not as complex as expected but again not ideal tasting conditions.
