Introduction

What is now becoming a tradition. Big wine dinner for a birthday with beautifull wines. No major theme other than magnums..
Wines were opened 2 hours ahead of the dinner. On tasting we decided not to decant appart from the 85 Leoville Barton.

    Both bottles tried today were not as expressive as the previous bottle we had a month ago or so. Drink up

  • 2006 Domaine Chevillon-Chezeaux Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots Blanc 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

    Consistent with earlier note { A fine experience of a great white from the region. Mild yet with character and complexity. Light oak, pale yellowy}

  • 1990 Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Cadettes 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    From magnum. Opened 2 hours ahead but no decanting. Nice open on the nose very CdP nose and with lots of expression. Well round and now at its peak. A bit barnish and lacks elegance , a peasant among the bordeaux that followed, but a very nice wine indeed. 91+

  • 1996 Château Montrose 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

    From magnum. Opened 2 hours ahead but no decanting and does not need it. On open the wine had a beautifull elegant nose which unfortunately died off a bit towards the end. Ina way for us a tipical of the avg Montrose vintages, leads with nose bt the body fails to match the level of sophistication (hence a 92+ and not a 95). Still very elegant and hard not to like especially if you are bordeaux fan like us. Could use some more density on the palate but away from that a beautifull bottle. A bit of burgandian feel to it if we might add. Drink now and do not decant. 92+

  • 1986 Château Cos d'Estournel 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

    From magnum and opened 2 hours ahead. No decanting ( if you dnt have the time to wait we would advice decanting)
    Such a beautifull wine. Drinking very well now and will continue to do so for 5yrs+. From open it had a beautifull, elegant and full of finesse bordeaux nose. The palate still has the 86 tannins that need their time to mellow but this was so expressive and enjoyable. Could use some mose density/layers on th epalate but away from this minor point a superb showing from another lovely Cos. Will loook to buy more. 93+ to 94

  • 1985 Château Léoville Barton 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

    From magnum and double decanted 2 hours ahead of time. Decanting required.
    For most WOTN ( vs Cos 86, Montrose 96). Big and reserved on open but after the 2 hours this became a beautiful wine. Lots of floral elements on the nose that blend beautifully with fruit. Very expressive and maintains it for a few hours. Great mouthfeel, long, round and very much alive. Another great showing from a 1985 St Julien ( St Juliens from 85 are delicious) . This wine drinks perfectly now and will continue easily for another 5yrs+. Funny when you think the 85 was predicted to be a short year...
    In General if you like elegant 80s bordeaux this is a great find along with the cos 86. 93+ maybe 94.

  • 1963 Sandeman Porto Vintage

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

    From a dubious bottle with a bad fully wet cork (thank you Farr Vitners for not advising this on your website). We covered it in wax the minute it got delivered.
    Yet this was was beautifull. Even after all this it needed like 45 minutes in a decanter...A teastament to the stregth and resilience of port.Very delicate and open. Good long finish. We can only imagine how a proper bottle would feel like. 94++ but will not officially rate.

Cos 86 you beauty.. LB 85 WOTN... St Juliens from 1985 are a great find
