Introduction
I visited the winery with a friend who knew the owner. We got a full tour of the winery to see the cellar and got to do some barrel tasting of this year's wines. Matthias Bungert was a very friendly guy, and obviously passionate about his wine making. The wines were all good, but all had a certain sweetness to them.
Flight 1 - White wines (9 Notes)
Flight 2 - Red wines (8 Notes)
Closing
It was quite a day of tasting, 6 hours including the tour. Palate fatigue was definitely in evidence by the end!

Nice notes of fresh cut grass, bit of sweet butter. On the palate sweet white fruits, some acidity, nice for a hot summer day.

Expressive nose, cats piss, black currant leaves, lots of fruit. Very nice balance of sweetness and acidity, lots of fruit on the palate as well. Got a bottle.

This one did not impress much, not much on the nose, good acidity but rather weak on the fruit.

2008 Bungert-Mauer Ockenheimer Grauer Burgunder Im Barrique gereift

LOTS of butter, butterscotch, toffee on the nose and the palate, oak is really pushing through, perhaps a bit too much. Very fruity on the palate as well.

2009 Bungert-Mauer Ockenheimer St. Jakobsberg Chardonnay

This was smooth, fruity with a slight sweetness on the palate. Not much on the nose though. 10% sees oak for a while.

Very interesting nose, peach, apricot, toffee, caramel, no acidity at all. Oak is very apparent.

Rather mute on the nose, citrusy, some acidity, didn't leave a large impression.

Wow, this had a very nice perfumey, citrusy aroma to it. Good acidity, I should have gotten a bottle!

2009 Bungert-Mauer Ockenheimer St. Jakobsberg Spätburgunder Blanc de Noir

Nose rather mute, but palate was very fruity and fresh, with a bit of sweetness to it. This would be lovely on a hot summer day in the garden.
