Introduction

Tulip Winery Tasting conducted by the winery's winemaker Tamir Hartzi.
Four labels were tasted, 3 vintages from each: current vintage in stores, previous, and next (barrel tasting).

Flight 1 - White Tulip (3 Notes)

  • 2008 Tulip Winery White Tulip 86 Points

    Israel, Galilee, Upper Galilee

    An unique blend of Gewürztraminer (60%) and Sauvignon Blanc(40%). Light Golden color. Odd aromas, which I found difficult to describe. Medium bodied, a little oily, Predominant acidity, lack of balance.

  • 2007 Tulip Winery White Tulip 87 Points

    Israel, Galilee, Upper Galilee

    Light Gold color. 70% Gewürztraminer and 30% Sauvignon Blanc in this one. Tropical fruits in the nose. Medium bodied, an oily filling in the palate, a little flat, bitterness in the finish

Flight 2 - Syrah Reserve (3 Notes)

  • 2007 Tulip Winery Syrah Reserve 88 Points

    Israel, Galilee, Upper Galilee

    Opaque purple. Nice nose with red fruits spices. Also alcohol in the nose. Full bodied a lot of sweetness in the palate. Angular tannins. Low acidity and short finish. Nice wine (21$)

  • 2008 Tulip Winery Syrah Reserve 89 Points

    Israel, Galilee, Upper Galilee

    Purple-black color. The wine was closed and didn’t give much in the nose – red fruits and spices. Full bodied, with both sweetness and bitterness in the palate. Very tannic, with better acidity than the '07.

  • 2009 Tulip Winery Syrah Reserve

    Israel, Galilee, Upper Galilee

    Barrel tasting. Bright ruby. Very strong nose, with a lot of fruit and oak. It was surprising that this one was much more approachable than the '07 and '08.

  • 2006 Tulip Winery Black Tulip 89 Points

    Israel, Upper Galilee / Judean Hills

    Opaque purple. Ripe fruits and a lot of alcohol in the nose. Also a lot of oak. A mouthfilling body, very tannic. Too much from everything, it lacks elegance.

    Barrel tasting of one of the barrels – definitely not the final blend. Close in the nose, full bodied, balanced. OK
