Introduction

I have been a big fan of the World of Fine Wine since they launched, and it has been a real pleasure to get to know their Editor and Publisher over the past two years. Tonight my wife and I had the pleasure of dining with Sara Morley and Neil Beckett.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

With assorted appetizers.

  • 1981 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut Collection

    France, Champagne

    Quite mature and toasty, much more delicate and subtle than any Krug I have ever tasted (and also the oldest Krug I have ever tasted). Gentle notes of vanilla. Relatively faint bubbles. I am not sure if this was an under-performer or if I need more practice and exposure to older Chmapagne.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

With a lovely terrine and some apple chutney.

Flight 3 (2 Notes)

With some Squab and shaved truffles and some sort of puree. Nice match with the truffle!

  • 2000 Vieux Château Certan

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

    Mmm, I love VCC. Spiny and green in a good way with strong Cab France character.

  • 1990 Château Haut-Brion

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

    Wow this was strong showing for this wine, the cleanest example if 1990 HB I have ever tasted. Crazy smoke and roast moving to gravel and cherry, this screams of Graves. Such amazing concentration, nobility and poise.

Flight 4 (1 Note)

And finally a souffle of fruit mostarda and some vanilla sauce.

  • 2007 Château Suduiraut

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    This is very reminiscent of 2001 Suduiraut tasted on release yet perhaps dialed a bit higher on botrytis and a touch lower on acid. Huge tangerine and stone fruit come out to play. Quite rich,
