Introduction
I enjoy zinfandel and this evening made me remember that. I don't seem to drink it very often. The Gott at $17 was the best bottle tonight and the sticky was good as well.
2007 Carlisle Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley

Big sweet fruit. A significant bit of alcohol as well. This might be lovely with time.

2005 Turley Zinfandel Tofanelli Vineyard

Some dirt on the nose and spice as well that blew off and eventually grew on me.

2007 Robert Biale Zinfandel The Biale Block Stagecoach Vineyard

Hot, peppery nose that calmed down with time. This was a bit simple and easy to drink. Blueberries. I think too much for zin. About $45 at the time.

2006 Ridge Lytton Springs

This was my 7th choice out of 8 across the evening, so not a ringing endorsement. I found a little bit of green, with a hollow mid-palate and medium finish.

2008 Joel Gott Zinfandel California

This was my 2nd and the group's first choice of the night. And, thrillingly, the least expensive of the night! $16.99 Sweet spice, complex. Peppery. Very nice.

2007 Robert Biale Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard

This was my favorite wine of the evening. The palate showed great tannins and was bright sweet and juicy. At $50, more than I want to spend for zin.

2006 A. Rafanelli Zinfandel

Wood on the nose and alcohol on the palate. A long finish, but medicinal. Not great.
