  • 1967 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Speciale Moccagatta Flawed

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Cloudy rose colored. A huge heap of VA and other chemical smells. It made a valiant effort to be drinkable but was swamped by the massive VA. Pretty close to DOA.

  • 2002 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Fournaux

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

Still deep and primary looking. Not as brambly as Savigny can be. Bright red fruit, fully integrated feel, medium weight. Drinks very well now despite not having expressed secondary characteristics yet. A clear success (as opposed to some of the other disasters of the the evening).

  • 1994 Havens Wine Cellars Bourriquot

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Very deep and saturated looking. We tasted this blind and the color led me to Syrah. Distinctive blueberry fruit, some creosote. Sound acidity and caressing tannins. Shows incredibly young-I guessed a wine from the late '90s and a companion thought 2004 vintage!

  • 1998 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Dark and primary. Modern nose with fruit and licorice. Very sappy wine with darker black fruit core. Although large scaled, it is kept in check by good acidity. Delicious now but little in the way of secondary development.

Flight 3 - Sticky (1 Note)

  • 2001 Château Guiraud

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Half bottle. Full yellow to light gold. High toned aromatics. Grilled nuts, apricot, some honey. Pure fruit in a very elegant package. Young and quite primary. Enjoyable but absolutely no rush.
